7-Methylcoumarin is a coumarin derivative known for its potent hepatoprotective and antioxidant properties. It functions as a mechanism-based inhibitor for CYP2A6, a key enzyme involved in drug metabolism. Studies have shown that it can significantly reduce markers of liver damage, such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and serum bilirubin (TB), in models of CCl4-induced liver injury. Additionally, it helps to restore total protein (TP) and albumin (TA) levels and prevent oxidative stress. It also exhibits an ability to decrease the mitotic activity of *A. sativum* promeristem.
